Sam Harris (b.1999, UK) is a multidisciplinary artist based in London, working with various materials and mediums to make conceptual artworks that subvert contemporary culture. In his works, Harris raises questions on authenticity and ownership in the art world and consumer culture at large, taking an informed yet humorous and ironic approach. In his own words, his works find themselves somewhere between ‘visual eye candy and conceptual art’. For Relic, the edition of bronze-cast condoms exclusively available on Just a Studio, Harris sought to flip the concept of commodity, assigning value to an object considered waste. The process of making this trompe l’oeil is evocative of his oeuvre; Harris works closely with craft specialists to execute his works, at once mimicking the practice of outsourcing by artists, while also gaining new and varied skills.
Since graduating from The Guildhall School of Museum and Drama in London, Harris has exhibited his work at established institutions such as the Royal Academy of Art and the Saatchi Gallery. Harris is also the founder and editor of Pure Filth, an artist’s platform and annual issue.
